Project of protection and modernization of level crossings

Within this Project, HŽ Infrastruktura will protect and modernize 94 level crossings and 1 pedestrian crossing on the lines for international, regional and local traffic in order to increase safety and consequently to reduce the number of traffic accidents and human casualties, as well as to decrease costs caused by traffic accidents.

Level crossings that are a part of this Project are recognized as places with a high level of mixed traffic, and most of them, together with the ones in other counties, are located in the counties of Bjelovar-Bilogora, Požega-Slavonia, Osijek-Baranja, Virovitica-Podravina and Varaždin.

The Project is co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Programme   “Competitiveness and Cohesion” 2014-2020 from the Cohesion Fund. The grant agreement for the Project with a total value of HRK 208,694,164.64 and eligible costs in the amount of HRK 167,712,450.29 was signed on 26 January 2021 by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, the Central Agency for Financing and Contracting of EU Programs and Projects and HŽ Infrastruktura d.o.o.

The amount of grants for the Project is HRK 167,712,450.29, which is the highest possible co-financing amount of the total determined value of eligible costs of the Project, and of which the amount of EU co-financing is HRK 142,555,582.74.

Project implementation period: 01/11/2018 – 31/12/2023

The Project entails implementation of works and all level crossings will be equipped with automatic electronic signalling and interlocking devices that use light signals in LED technology and high volume sound alarms for safe traffic flow, while at 79 level crossings, in addition to these devices, half-barriers will be installed.
