Modernisation of the section Zagreb Kustošija – Zagreb West Station – Zagreb Main Station

Section Zagreb West Station – Zagreb Main Station (3.5 km) is an integral part of the main corridor railway line for international traffic M101 State border – Savski Marof – Zagreb Main Station on corridor RH1 and is also part of the section Rijeka – Zagreb – Budapest on corridor RH2, i.e. on Mediterranean corridor.

On 21 December 2022 HŽ Infrastruktura d.o.o., signed the Grant Agreement NPOO.C1.4.R2-I4.01.0001 as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) with the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure (MSTI) and the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA). The value of the Grant Agreement is EUR 36.5 million and the eligible costs are EUR 29.2 million, which is the maximum amount for co-financing the eligible costs of the Project, and it is fully, or 100 percent co-financed from the NRRP or the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.

The signed Grant Agreement covers the following activities:

1. Publicity and visibility
2. Works
3. Supervision

On 18 October 2022 HŽ Infrastruktura signed a Works contract with SWIETELSKY d.o.o. in the amount of EUR 26.4 million.

On 8 May 2023 HŽ Infrastruktura signed a Service contract for supervision of works with the consortium consisting of INVESTINŽENJERING d.o.o., EPTISA ADRIA d.o.o. and IN STRIA d.o.o. in the amount of EUR 0.4 million.

The implementation of works on the section Zagreb West Station – Zagreb Main Station will help increase speed and capacity as well as traffic safety, improve local and regional rail passenger transport and help better integration of the railway into the public transport system of the city of Zagreb. It will also reduce traveling time and contribute to environmental protection.

As part of the Project the following works are planned:

• reconstruction of level-crossings
• track renewal
• replacement of turnouts
• rehabilitation and construction of bridges and culverts
• construction of landscaped areas for passenger access
• works on signalling and interlocking and telecommunication devices
• works on the reconstruction of the overhead contact line.
